Bobbie Gentry

Bobbie Gentry, born Roberta Lee Streeter in 1942 in Chickasaw County, Mississippi, is an American singer-songwriter who worked primarily in country and Southern pop. She was one of the first women in the US to compose and produce her own material, and her 1967 single 'Ode to Billie Joe' reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. She retired from the music industry after a final television appearance in 1981.
